I love Cannon Powershot camera and so do so many people. I was surfing the web and these are some I found about the Cannon Powershot A630 Digital Camera.

◊ My first impression of the A630 was less than stellar. After a year plus squinting through the viewfinder of my Rebel XT, I was really looking forward to composing my shots in a big, beautiful LCD again. Unfortunately, the LCD on the A630 may be big, but it's not beautiful. It does a fine job helping you review what's already been captured and presenting menu options legibly, but a mediocre job of rendering what's coming through the lens. The color is inaccurate and interference frequently appeared on the screen when half-clicking to freeze the focus. It still beats a viewfinder for composing an image but, frankly, I'd rather have the smaller LCD on my daughter's A630.

◊ Ultimately, though, picture quality is everything to me, and here the A630 excels. I took 60+ pictures on a recent trip to Door County, WI and not one of them was a clunker, including several taken in very tricky lighting situations. Shooting modes worked as advertised although, with good lighting, the auto mode produced identical results. Indoors, flash pictures were perfectly exposed and the flash had a surprisingly good range.
On average, and I know this is heresy, the A630 took better pictures than my Rebel XT, and I didn't feel the need to Photoshop a single one of them. If I cared more about the LCD, I would have given this camera a lower rating, but a lower rating would not have done justice to the quality of the images this camera produces.

◊ I am only a novice photographer that takes family and vacation pictures, but speaking for the average user, this is a fantastic camera. I previously owned an Olympus digital that would blur pictures every time my kids moved the slightest bit. With this camera, I took shots of my daughter bouncing on a bouncy ball and it didn't blur at all. Not only that, but the shutter was fast enough that I caught her in mid-air. I love the rotating screen because it allows the photographer to take photos of themselves (albeit close ones). I've taken pictures of myself holding my new baby close to my face, and I hold the camera up high to get photos of her in my arms so I'll remember looking at her from that angle (big selling point for new moms when the dads aren't shutterbugs.) With the fast shutter recovery, I am able to take successive shots and capture several silly newborn expressions that are usually difficult to capture. I can't stress that advantage enough when you have kids!! If you lose a shot with a slow camera, you'll never get that opportunity back. This camera is one of the fastest in terms of delay between shots. My home has VERY POOR lighting, yet my photos still come out better than I expected. Sure, some have darker backrounds, but the subject is well lighted and it's significantly better than other cameras I've tried. Outdoor photos and good indoor lighting come out fantastic. I do have red-eye on most of my indoor photos, but I got that out easily with the Walmart software on the picture cd's. I don't know what the other reviewer was talking about with floating red over heads and not being able to remove the red eye. The battery life is enormous. I had the camera on to learn how to use it, took over 400 photos that I kept and countless photos that I erased all on the same batteries. The size is not micro-small, but it is small enough for a purse or a coat pocket. The only negative thing I could say about this camera is that there are more features than the average family photographer will ever need. And sometimes I've accidentally changed options on the menu that I don't know how to de-select. But that is a user problem, not a camera problem. I highly recommend this camera.

◊ I owned the A530 and Digital Elph 5.0 in 2002 and really enjoyed the tow of them.
This camera has many of the same features like automatic orientation of the monitor image but the A630 is a great improvement in every way to its predecessors....Macro is great....Multi spot focusing
works like a dream.Detail is phenomenal at high res.
Shoot manually( Medium difficulty) or keep it on auto and just point and shootl Makes very good AVI/Quicktime movies too!
These shots are unretouched and just as the camera and I saw them.

◊ Before buying the A630, I had the 4-megapixel Canon A80 for three years. Loved the camera, but it takes poor pictures in low indoor light settings and the 1" screen is small and dim.
The A630 fixes both of those issues. The super-large 2.5" screen is huge and bright. Also the CCD is more sensitive and takes great indoor pictures on either "Auto" mode, or using the "High ISO" setting in Program mode.
Still Shots: The camera powers up quickly and has many shot options. Auto mode is sufficient 99% of the time, but the nighttime, fireworks, portrait, and other settings are good too. I normally only use the 4-megapixel setting and still get great results. Very few times that I need the 8-megapixel resolution, but it is nice to have it available.
Movies: The frame rate is increased to 30fps in VGA mode. No choppiness here. Plus the digital zoom still functions after the movie is started! That is a real plus.
Summary: Many manufacturers have cameras that take great shots. I like the Canon for two reasons. First the flip screen protects the LCD when not in use, and allows you to lift the camera over your head or around a corner and sill see the image. Second the 4-AA batteries allow you to take hundreds of pictures all day on a single set.

◊ I had a Canon A520 and the time to recycle the Flash was so long that I got rid of it and bought the Canon A630. The pictures from any Canon camera is always great. Canon A630 writes the images quickly and the flash recycle time is very fast and the swivel LCD is great. It is little bit bulky to put in a pant pocket but will go into a jacket pocket very nicely. The button positions and feel is very good. Overall it is a great camera and you can get good prices on the web.
